OCR: Translation is the process by which amino acids are assembled into polypeptides according to instructions provided by an MRNA sequence. An mRNA is usually translated by many ribosomes simultaneously. Translation is sub divided into three stages: 1. Initiation: the assembly of the components needed to begin translation 2. Elongation: the stepwise addition of each amino acid to the growing polypeptide 3. Termination: the completion of polypeptide synthesis, release of the finished polypeptide, and dissociation of the ribosomal subunits This animation shows the stages of translation in prokaryotes.
